![]() Seen in today's entry is the Palais du Luxembourg (Luxembourg Palace) in Paris, France. The Luxembourg Palace is the most prominent feature of Jardin du Luxembourg (Luxembourg Garden), which is the largest public park (224,500 m²) in Paris, France. There are many sculptures scattered all around the premises, including the Fountain des Médicis, statues of the Queens of France as well as one of Saint Genèvieve (the patron saint of Paris), Auguste Rodin's bust of Stendhal, Sicard's sculpture of George Sands, a miniature Statue of Liberty, and many, many others. I focused on one of the statues for this composition. The focus in this shot is on the statue, and there is a reason I photographed this scene the way I did. If you take a look at the background, you'll notice a lot of people. They all surround a large octagonal basin of water. Children (as well as adults) propel model sail boats across the large surface. It's very interesting. But the purpose of this shot is to highlight the timeless nature of the tourists and the locals. The juxtaposition of the sculpture at center and the people in the background creates an interesting scenario: both are still in this frame. And yet, there is something ethereal in the movement, like this is a still from a movie, and one is beckoned to hit the play button to see how the movements will unfold. Perhaps, if the sculpture came alive, you'd see the deer jumping onto the grass, briskly moving away. At least, that's my vision of this scene.. How do you see this scene? On a technical note: this is a high dynamic range image, and I am pleased with the way this one turned out. I am hoping that my HDR images have gotten more aesthetically pleasing over the years, but of course, you're always welcome to disagree. I will post two or three more images from the Jardin du Luxembourg in the coming days. ### In other news: voting for the 2010 Photoblog Awards has just opened up, and I'd appreciate your vote for Erudite Expressions. |
