It was easy to overlook.

The first time you see the Capitol building, you rush forward.

Well, it wasn't my first time visiting the Capitol, so I took some time to look around this time. This decoration on one of the walls surrounding the building caught my eye. I crossed a barricade, moved a trashcan, and captured this shot for posterity. It's nothing much, but preserving details like this matter. There's a testament to the ingrained: the tiny leaves and moss embedded in the stone reaffirm that winter will soon be gone (or perhaps, that its grasp isn't so mighty after all).

In other news: one of my goals in 2010 is to read fifty-two books. Why? Because outside of photography, this is something else I do. But it's been a challenge to project what I am reading on Erudite Expressions (it's not exactly the right place to do so). To be sure, I've highlighted books I've read in the past, but I am hoping that the start of readingbyeugene.com will bring something new, refreshing, and, well, erudite for me and those of you that will join me there. So say hello to my new blog.
