Do you ever feel like you don't have enough hours in the day to do all the things you want? Occasionally, I let that kind of mentality grab a hold of me as well, but then I think...

Everyone has the same problem. We all wish our days to be longer so we can accomplish more stuff, spend more time doing stuff we like, etc. But you know what I think (and of course, I am not the first one to think of this)? I think that we all have the same time every day; it's just how we choose to spend the time we have that differentiates us. Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Abraham Lincoln: all of them accomplished what they did not because of some miracle, but because they toiled away.

I love that scene from The Lord of the Rings where Frodo looks down at the ring in his hand and says that he wishes the ring had never come into his possession. And Gandalf wisely responds: “So do I, and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for us to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

When someone asks me, “Eugene, why are you reading this book when it's not even assigned for class?” I always respond the same way: “Because I want to.” I set aside the time to read books because I think it shapes my mind, attunes my thinking, and so many other things. The same can be said of other things in life: if you really care for it, if you have the desire, then you should make every effort to set aside the time to do it. Do you have the desire to lose weight? Then set aside a certain amount of time every day to go to the gym. Want to read more? Set aside one hour before bed to just read. This is the way to accomplish things in life. You know that Nike ad? It is my motivation. Just do it.

And as for this picture: it is the detail of the Astronomical Clock in Prague. I featured a wide-angle shot of the Orloj (in Czech: Pražský orloj), as it is better known, in this post.

Note: you can see my entire gallery from Czech Republic here.
