This past Sunday, I visited Stone Mountain Park (I had a client photo shoot there). Before the session, I took some time to explore the area.

The colours there were absolutely beautiful. I've been noticing the beautiful autumn slowly enveloping Georgia, but I've actually taken very few images of the world around me (you will have noticed that the majority of recent posts have focused on my travels this past summer instead of recent work).

If you're familiar with my work, then you know I shoot primarily with the Canon 5D and an assortment of Canon lenses. For this client shoot, however, I had the opportunity to try out the Nikon D700 (Nikon's semi-professional full-frame dSLR, comparable to the Canon 5D). I was using the Nikon D700 with the Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 VR lens, and I must say that I was very impressed with the combination. The focusing was relatively fast and the images were sharp (though I can't claim with certainty whether the Nikkor lens is sharper than my Canon 100mm macro lens).

This particular image was shot with the Nikon D700 and Nikkor 105mm lens at f/2.8. Railroad tracks cover the perimeter of the mountain, and I captured this shot just to the left of the big lawn overlooking the giant carving on the mountain (another picture I captured with the Nikon D700 + 105mm combo; I uploaded that image to Wikipedia). I love how the sign posts for the speed limit have taken a life of their own: bending out of shape!
