![]() The street photography theme continues with the image you see here, which was captured in Salzburg, Austria. The other images I have posted this week are here, here, here, and here. When I mentioned that I was posting images related to street photography, the initial intention was to post images which were captured on the street, but my internal stipulation was that these images must contain people in the frame. I have plenty of images from my travels which I captured while on the street, but these images don't exactly fall into the genre of street photography. The image in today's entry may not entirely fit the guidelines of street photography, but I wanted to post it today (explanation forthcoming). I think it's interesting what photographers can do when using a wide-angle lens. Here, I sought to capture the wide boulevard in Salzburg, which runs parallel to the Salzach River (not seen in the image, but it would be on the left side of the frame). The image is a long exposure, with a capture time of five seconds. My initial intention was to create a high dynamic range image out of this scene, but I wound up working with the metered exposure instead. I think the long exposure for this image worked. I like how the trail of lights from passing cars leads you from the right side of the frame to the left, perhaps toward those mountains in the distance. Also, pan your eyes to the right side of the frame, just to the right of the hatchback. You'll see some blur. It is the trail of passersby who walked on the street while I captured this shot. But the primary reason I am posting this image as part of the “street photography” genre is for the man in red. I observed him for a while, and he must have stood there for a good five minutes. He did pan his head to the left and right, beckoning for passersby to glance in his direction. As the proprietor of the bar (I think), he was looking for customers to come in and have a good time that lovely evening. After I finished my series of shots at this location, I continued to explore Salzburg. I will post more pictures from Salzburg in the weeks to come, including a beautiful panoramic view of the city from the other side of the Salzach. Stay tuned. If you want to see some other photos from Salzburg which are related to street photography, see here and here. In unrelated news: do you think this blog is a good idea? You can take a poll if you go there. §§§ Note: the following is a repeat from what I posted in yesterday's entry: I want to ask whether you can take a minute (or less!) of your time and vote for Erudite Expressions in the 2009 Photoblog Awards. Please vote only if you like and/or appreciate my work. I've been posting images here since April 2006. I've posted more than 1,200 images (corresponding sale) on this space since I've began this photoblog. I don't really like asking about this voting too much, because at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. It's not a popularity contest. But I think there is a purpose in this contest: to highlight or showcase some of the more interesting photoblogs on the internet. I want to quote what another excellent photoblogger said about the 2009 Photoblog Awards. Faisal Sultan, who runs the excellent photoblog Frisky Pics, writes the following: These things like 'awards' and such often tend to be fickle and nothing more than a popularity contest. But I want to start to share what I love with more and more people and if that means selling out and asking people to vote for me, I'll do it.May I suggest you vote for Frisky Pics here? If you're not convinced, take a look at these pictures: one, two, three. Faisal has been at it much longer than I have: since 2003! If that isn't dedication, I don't know what is... There is a registration process required before you can cast your vote (yes, registration is somewhat annoying, but the process assures of only one vote per email address).
