![]() Seen here is an angel statue inside the premises of Versailles. In case you are wondering, this image is a high dynamic range image. There was one other edit of this image I was considering posting, but after looking through it again, I chose a different post-processing route to bring you the image in today's entry. The first edit which didn't make the cut is here. With this post, dear reader, I am reaching out to you (keep reading to learn what I mean). Someone recently asked me how much time it takes me to create a single photoblog post, from start to finish. I cannot provide one definitive answer, as my workflow varies from day to day. What I mentioned was that the thought (selection) process in choosing which image to post can take me up to an hour to decide (primarily because I usually do not have a pipeline of images which are post-processed and ready to post, except in the rare occasions when I post images on a theme). The assumption here is that the image I am ready to post is already post-processed, but usually that isn't the case. It happens quite often that I settle on which image I want to post, but after spending some time in post-production, I don't like the final result. In that case, it's back to the drawing board; I start the selection process again. So you can imagine that from start to finish, a single photoblog entry (selecting the image, post-processing it, posting the image, and writing the caption behind the image) may take up to two or more hours to complete. Free Prints Announcement: After a hiatus of about two months, I have decided on how I want to run my next free print giveaway. There are still four prints to give away, and for this giveaway, I will give away two of these prints (please read the details and fine print here). To enter the contest (which runs through September 1, 2009), all you have to do is leave a comment which answers the following question, which I phrase in three different ways: 'Why do you feel attracted to this image? How do you connect to this image? What about this image moves you?' It's a simple question of inspiration. (For photographers: if you haven't already seen Transform, an incredibly moving video by Zack Arias, please check it out here; I've blogged how the video resonated with me in this post). Perhaps you are from New York and go running in Central Park every day. Maybe you're a huge Yankees fan, and so you may be drawn to this picture. Has something stopped you in your tracks, causing you to become mesmerized? If so, I want to hear about it. Since I have posted more than 1,200 images on Erudite Expressions to date, I hope that there is (at least) one image that stands out in your mind (and if there isn't, that is fine; you don't have to leave a comment). But if there is an image that speaks to you, that stirs your senses, that somehow inspires you, I want to hear about it. Just find the associated photoblog entry that contains that image and leave a comment (use the 'comments' link at the bottom of the post). On September 2, 2009 I will pick out two of the most moving and/or creative responses. I will share the responses on a photoblog post in early September. You may be wondering why I'm running this contest this way. Recently I was trying to figure out a way to connect to some of the readers/viewers (I say viewers because some just look at the pictures and don't read the captions) of Erudite Expressions. Since I don't usually ask questions of my readers directly, I am hoping that this contest will help open some doors, especially for those of you (and I know there are a few) who are passive observers, the silent lurkers who view the images but never leave comments. Actually, I hesitate to use the term contest in the first place, because a contest has the implications that you're competing with someone for a prize. This isn't meant to be a competition. Yes, I will give away two free prints to two people, but I am hoping to hear some genuine responses. The free prints are there as extra motivation for you to comment, though I am hoping that the overarching stimulus will be the desire to comment, and not the inherent prize involved. In a sense, it's not about the free print giveaway, but it's about you. And if you are sincere and forthcoming, then you're already a winner in my book. |
