![]() Sometimes, in life, there is a path that is stretched out ahead of you. You may already be on a certain path, and all you have to do is to continue taking some steps forward. After all, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, right? If you're already on the path, that's wonderful. What you have to be prepared for, however, is the possibility of the path taking you to some unexpected places. This is the metaphor which the image in today's entry signifies: you're already on the path, but you're not exactly sure where you may be headed (after all, the future is always uncertain). The depth of field in this image is very small, so the focus is on the beginning of the striped line which divides the flow of traffic on this lonely road in the Bavarian countryside. In the distance are some mountains and trees, but I've purposely post-processed the background so that it appears dark, since it's not possible to look too far beyond your current position (if you were able to do so, what would be the point? If you always knew where you were headed or destined, life would be pretty boring, don't you think?). But lest you become too melancholy, you can always re-orient yourself; for one, you could always glance down and see your position at this moment in time; and two, you can always glance to the sky for bearing, guidance, or support. As for me, I am currently on this path, and I have some general idea where I'm headed. But I have no clue where the path is going to make the next turn. How does your path look? Perhaps you are one of those who makes the path rather than follows one. The relevance to Erudite Expressions? This is my 1,200th post, and I think I've come a long way since I started posting one image a day on April 24, 2006. In January 2009, I reached a major milestone of my 1,000 consecutive post (click here to see the collage for my 1,000th post and do read the caption behind the post). Since then, I've missed around seven days of posts, though I've been fairly consistent in posting otherwise. I doubt I will sustain posting every day for the rest of 2009; if I can't, I am not going to worry about it as much as I used to in the past. One of my life philosophies is to take each day as it comes, so that's exactly what I am going to do. Thanks for your visit. |
