Today was Bastille Day (Fête Nationale) in France! And while I made it to the center of the city to watch the grand fireworks display from the Eiffel Tower in late evening, perhaps the more significant event on July 14 occurred about twenty-two hours prior to the fireworks display.

Just after midnight, I was in a restaurant on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. It was a grand evening. We met some natives who called Champs-Élysées the most important street in the world. It's hard to disagree with them: you have to walk on the street to experience the atmosphere yourself.

This was an elegant restaurant where the waiters wore collared shirts with ties. As I was sipping on some hot chocolate (perhaps the best I've ever had in my life), there was a man sitting next to me who started shuffling on the sofa. I glanced in his direction and I had a certain feeling about what was coming next. The man got down on one knee, opened a tiny box with the precious ring, and made a proposal to the lovely woman to be his wife. She said yes.

My camera was next to me, so I captured this joyous moment on film. Perhaps one or two of these photos I will post on Erudite Expressions in the future.
