![]() My cousin and his fiancée joined us in Salzburg, Austria. They drove from Vienna, Austria and met us at Hauptbahnhof. Yesterday in the evening, as I was walking around Salzburg and photographing the city by night, an elderly couple approached me and asked what I was doing. I explained to them that I was taking three separate exposures of the scene in front of me (a fountain, in this case) and would then combine the three images in post-processing to create a high dynamic range (HDR) image (my HDR gallery is here). Anyway, the couple turned out to be natives of Salzburg, so I asked them questions about what things to see around the city and beyond (knowing that we had a car at our disposal for the next day). They mentioned that I should definitely visit the city of Hallein, Austria. So today we headed to Hallein. The city is perhaps best known for its salt mine, which has been mined for thousands of years. During the afternoon, we walked around this lovely town. We sat next to the Salzach River and had a picnic lunch. I captured the image seen in today's entry after finishing my sandwich. After Hallein, we crossed the border into Germany, where we saw no less than three amazing towns in Bavaria. The images from those locations I will post in August and September. |
