Today I explored Vienna. I left from the Gasometer City train station and proceeded to central Vienna.

One of my stops was the Austrian Parliament Building (German: Parlament or Hohes Haus, formerly the Reichsratsgebäude), which is the seat of the National Council (Nationalrat) and the Federal Council (Bundesrat). The building is located on the Ringstraße in the first district Innere Stadt in Vienna.

In front of the Parliament Building is the Pallas Athene Fountain, which is seen in today's entry. The fountain was erected in 1902 and features Athena with a gilded helmet and armed with a spear in her left hand. In her right hand, Athena is holding Nike, the Winged Goddess of Victory in Greek mythology. The architects responsible for the fountain are Carl Kundmann, Josef Tautenhayn, and Hugo Haerdlt. There are four lying figures (not all four are visible in today's entry) at the foot of Athena, which are allegorical representations of the four most important rivers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The four rivers represented are Danube and Inn (in the front of the statue) and the Elbe and Vltava (in the back of the statue).

Post-processing: this image was captured on a cloudy day, as it started raining. Therefore, the original RAW image was dull, and I brought back the cyans and greens in the base of the fountain. I also pulled out the golds and yellows in the façade of the Parliament Building. You can see the original, unprocessed file here.
