Today was a fun day!

A couple of weeks ago, I was reading about Ford's Fiesta Movement on twitter. I then looked at the profiles of different agents, and I noticed that Atlanta-based Paul Stamatiou had an upcoming Ford Fiesta mission. The mission is 'Super Slick Fiesta,' which involved meeting with 'a local shutterbug and have them show you how HDR photos are done. Go out together and shoot your Fiesta at the most scenic location in your area.' After I saw the mission, I immediately asked Paul whether he already had photographers picked out to help with this mission. He said he had two photographers helping out, but that I was welcome to come along as well.

So today I, Paul, Tim, and Brooke went on to accomplish the mission. We all met up at Paul's apartment in Midtown and headed out in the Fiesta. First stop was the Cactus Car Wash in Midtown, where the Ford Fiesta got pampered with a super car wash package. After the car wash, we proceeded to a parking deck at SCAD. Unfortunately, a security officer saw us enter the parking lot and told us that we had to leave. Somewhat disappointed, but determined to carry on with the mission, we next decided to drive up to the parking deck of the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center.

After shooting for about forty-five minutes, we realized that the light for HDR photography wasn't ideal. We got some great shots, but we would come back to this same parking lot after a nice dinner at El Azteca (Paul has informed us that Ford is going to cover the bill, thanks!).

So, the picture you see in today's entry is the 2011 Ford Fiesta as seen from the top of the parking lot at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center. The image is a high dynamic range image (see my entire HDR gallery here), composed of three bracketed exposures. I used Photomatix Pro to tone-map the image, and I made some minor adjustments in Adobe Photoshop CS3. One of the adjustments I carried out in Photoshop was scaling back the blue tones in the asphalt of the parking lot (in the end, I decided to leave some of the blue and magenta tones in the final image for a creative effect). The final result could still use some work, but I am pleased with this preliminary version.

This was definitely a fun day, not least because I enjoy photography so much. Thanks to Paul for the invitation to come help with this mission. I will post at least one or two more images from this photoshoot in the next few days, so stay tuned. To learn more about the Ford Fiesta, check out this website. Also, most definitely check out Paul's informative blog for tech news and reviews.

Finally, in case you weren't aware, I am running a photo contest for free prints. All the details are here. No one has volunteered to answer the question posed in yesterday's entry, so I am extending the first day's contest for a bit longer to allow someone to win a free print. To enter the contest, read the details here and the first mini-challenge here.
