![]() Today I went to the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Atlanta Hawks game at Philips Arena. It was Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. After two blowouts in Cleveland, the Atlanta Hawks and their fans were happy to come home. Unfortunately for the Hawks, LeBron James had a message that he wanted to send: 'I am the MVP of the league, and there is nothing that is going to stop me.' (I captured the shot of LeBron James, seen in today's entry, of doing his thing with the chalk toss prior to the game). Indeed, it was quite demoralizing watching LeBron punishing the Hawks play after play. LeBron James had an incredible game: 47 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists. Final score in Atlanta: Cavaliers 97, Hawks 82. It was actually closer than it appeared, at least for three quarters. The Hawks were only down one point at halftime (47 to 46), and they jumped to a second-half lead with a 13-0 run in the third quarter. Just as things looked promising for the Hawks, Zaza Pachulia went ballistic for arguing a foul call and was promptly ejected from the game (I like Zaza's intensity, but I think in this particular case it hurt the Hawks more than it helped them). Even though the Hawks lost this game, it was still a fun game to attend. It was the first time I saw LeBron James play live, and LeBron did it in front of 20,143 fans (a lot of Cleveland fans were in attendance, and they gave grief to certain lackluster players for the Hawks, such as Josh Smith, who couldn't hit any jump shots down the stretch). After the game, I went to ESPNZone in Buckhead, where I watched the Chicago Blackhawks vs. Vancouver Canucks in Game 5 of the NHL Western Conference Semifinals (one reason for the delay in posting this entry). |
