![]() I love exploring cities. When I was walking around Avignon, I turned left from one of the busier streets (rue de la Republique), and entered this tiny alley. One of the first stores I noticed was Cave du Bouffart, a regional wine store. I thought that it looked quaint, cozy, and authentic, and of course I could not resist taking a picture of it. I would have gone wider, but this image was actually captured at 17mm on the Canon 5D (with me standing by the opposite wall), so it should tell you give you some idea how narrow this alley was! Cave du Bouffart is listed as the Best Wine Store by Michelin Guide, Guide Fujimoto, Pudlo, and many others (you can see their list on the black banner). Provence has the most ancient vineyards in all of France. Around 2600 years ago, the Greeks from Phocee, founded the Greek colony of Marseille and introduced the grape plants and the techniques of wine making to the locals. The vineyards were continued to be developed by the Romans, and then in the Middle Ages were picked up by the monastic communities. The tradition continues to this very day. So, if you're ever in Avignon, and you're looking for a nice selection of the local wines, check out Cave du Bouffart (almost all the wines of Provence are represented here) at 14 Rue des Fourbisseurs, Avignon, 84000. Today's photoblog to discover is Jason Ertel's These Fleeting Moments. It's another amazing photoblog filled with beautiful landscape images. |
