![]() Seen in today's entry is Santiago Bernabéu, the home football stadium of club Real Madrid, in Madrid, Spain. I captured this image in July 2008 when I was traveling around Spain. Work on the stadium started in 1944, and the stadium officially opened on December 14, 1947. At one point in history the stadium had a capacity of over 100,000. However, that capacity allowed for standing-room spectators, and the stadium saw a renovation (to conform to UEFA rules) from 1998 to 1999 which decreased the stadium's capacity to around 75,000. Today, Santiago Bernabéu capacity is around 80,000. Santiago Bernabéu is set to host the European Cup final in 2010. |
