I've been feeling rather uninspired over the last few weeks. I think it is a combination of winter blues, the current market conditions, and my disappointing job search.

However, today I woke up and came across this amazing video, Transform, by Atlanta-based photographer Zack Arias. He begins the video by making you think he's going to talk about photographic techniques, prints, post-production in Photoshop, and other such things...Then, at the minute and a half mark, there is this incredible, monumental pause. And then, the real story begins.

'Who am I as a photographer? What is my voice?' he asks. Zack Arias describes his winter funk as 'a deep and abiding darkness that seems to wash over my brain.' There are a lot of thoughts of self-doubt and pessimism. And he asserts that 'at the end of the day it isn't this camera that matters,' with which I whole-heartedly agree. He questions things that are presumed to be important. What he speaks about is poignant, real, and inspiring.

Here is the link to his video, Transform (alternatively, you can just watch the video below). His words are the most inspiring I've heard in months. See and listen for yourself.

Update (10/14/2009): I have submitted this image for the 2009 Photo of the Year as part of this year's Photoblog Awards (my submission is here). The image is meant to inspire, but it's more than that. It's my tribute of inspiration to Zack Arias for his Transform video. You can check out all the candidates here. If you like this image and the message it conveys, I would appreciate your vote. Thank you.
