The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 8000.86 today, while the S&P 500 finished at 825.88. Wall Street ended its worst January ever: it was a monthly 8.84 percent drop for the Dow and an 8.57 percent drop for the S&P 500.

I spent the majority of my day at Georgia Tech. In particular, I was at the Ferris-Goldsmith Trading Floor (pictured in today's entry), located on the fourth floor of the Management Building in Technology Square of Georgia Tech. I spent some time polishing my cover letter and résumé. I submitted a few online applications (I am looking for a finance-related internship for Summer 2009, as I mentioned in my 1,000th post, found here). Finally, I checked up on various stock prices and prices for some call and put options.

After spending about an hour on the Trading Floor, I realized that it was eerily quiet. I was the only one there (it was Friday night, so maybe that's to be expected). But I also remembered that I had my Canon 5D in my bookbag and that I had not used it the entire day. And so I bring you today's entry - the first entry in over a month which was captured on the same day as it is being posted (the entries over the last month have all been from the archives).

More about the Trading Floor: it is a 2,000-square-foot facility which has fifty-four dual-display computers and two large electronic boards (they can be seen on center left and center right of the frame) which display stock data from various world markets, prices for fixed income securities and various commodities, as well as top headlines from Reuters. The facility is pretty awesome. I don't mind spending time there because I can focus and get a lot accomplished.
