![]() Today was an important day in the history of the United States of America. Barack Obama, previously a junior Senator from Illinois, was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States in an inaugural ceremony at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. I watched the news coverage of the event from a warm, comfortable room. I began watching CNN at about 8AM at home and then again from about 9:30AM to 12:30PM at the Georgia Tech student center. Most people watched in silence until Chief Justice John Roberts, Jr. made a silly blunder in administering the Presidential Oath of Office to Obama (here's a transcript and here is a video in case you missed it). After the announcement that Barack Obama is now the President of the United States, most everyone in the room started clapping. About the image in today's entry: captured in downtown Atlanta in May 2008, across from the CNN Center. The billboard was part of CNN's heavy promotion for its Black in America series, which is coming back in July 2009. Here is the link to the CNN website. It's time to see some change in America. I hope Barack's message of 'Yes We Can' will become a message of 'Yes We Did' in the months and years to come. |
