In case you were wondering from where my images of the sea (see here, here, and here) where taken, I present you today's entry, which features Costa Magica, the cruise ship on which I voyaged this summer.

It was an amazing trip which began in Barcelona, Spain and finished at the same port seven days later. Along the way, we stopped in Marseilles (France), Savona (Italy), Naples, Palermo (Sicily), Tunis, and Palma de Mallorca (Spain). I've posted images from those various locales on this photoblog, but I plan on posting some of the more spectacular images in the new year.

As for this image: it is an HDR composed of three exposures, blended together in Photomatix Pro. For this HDR, I used a 3-stop neutral density filter attached to the Canon 17-40 f/4L lens on my Canon 5D. The neutral density filter came in handy because it allowed me to capture exposure times of about 1/5 to 1/20 seconds, which allowed for the water to be smoothed out as the cruise ship was advancing forward.

I have been meaning to post this shot for a long time (I finished post-processing it in July). I already have an 8'x12' metallic print of this image, and I have to say that it looks even more spectacular in a print than it does as a digital image.

Thanks for visiting, and as always, feel free to leave a comment.

Update: As of this writing, I am off on another travel adventure. I'm not sure if I'll be able to post from the road, so this entry may be the last one I post on Erudite Expressions in 2008. Happy Holidays!
