![]() One of Italy's smallest regions (the third smallest of Italy's twenty-regions, to be exact), Liguria stretches west in a narrow ribbon along the coast from France. Mountains separate it from the Piedmont to the north, Emilia Romagna to the east, and the beautiful region of Tuscany to the south. Whether you are traveling by train or by car in Liguria, the journey along the Ligurian coast will take you through numerous tunnels. This tiny region contains the country's largest commercial port and largest naval port. Liguria gets its name from people who first inhabited the region, the Ligures. Liguria itself is divided into four provinces: Savona, Genoa (Genova), Imperia, and La Spezia. During my trip in Europe this summer, I was traveling on a bus going from the city of Savona to the fishing village of Portofino (in the Genoa province). The views along the way, such as the one seen in today's entry, were amazing. I will post another image or two from the journey to Portofino, after which I will post images I captured in Portofino (which might be some of my best work yet). Stay tuned. |
