I went to the Braves vs. Mets game tonight with some friends. Unfortunately, as I was standing in the ticket line, there was an announcement that tonight's game had 'standing room only' (SRO) tickets as the only tickets available for purchase. So instead of being able to cash in my 'free' game coupons (which I actually bought earlier in the year), I had to pay $10 per ticket for these SRO seats. A lot of other fans were in the same predicament.

Here's the interesting part though. After I walked away with the tickets, I came back to another spot in the line (to redeem these coupons for tomorrow's game) and saw another fan who tried to redeem these coupons for tickets. At first, the ticket lady told him that there were standing room only tickets available for $10. The fan went on to say, 'You mean to tell me that I paid $40 for these tickets for nothing? I came here with my kids and you can't even give me a ticket to the game?' At this point the lady changed her mind and muttered under her breath that she 'can try to find something.' After a few minutes of shuffling around on the computer, she printed out four tickets for him. Bottom line is this: if you don't ask, you probably won't receive (though this doesn't seem applicable to selling prints on this photoblog for some reason).

At any rate, we occupied SRO 'seats' for the first two innings (I took the image in today's entry from the terrace level standing room), but we then found empty seats in the terrace level and proceeded there. And there is no way that Turner Field sold out all tickets today. However, tonight's attendance was 50,124 - the highest for the entire 2008 season. Tonight's attendance easily eclipsed the Opening Day game (which had an attendance of 45,269), which I also attended on March 31. To see a nice picture of Turner Field from Opening Day 2008, click here. Tonight's game had a lot of fans come out to the ballpark probably because it was the last (home) evening game of the season, but also because we were playing the Mets, division rivals (there were also a lot of Mets fans at the game tonight).

The game was pretty exciting, as Jorge Campillo got the win for the Braves. Campillo allowed two runs and five hits in six innings. The Mets sent Pedro Martinez to the mound; he lost his third straight decision, giving up nine hits and four runs in six innings. The Braves held on to a 4-2 lead, as Mike Gonzalez worked a perfect ninth for his 12th save in 14 chances. It was a great night at Turner Field, capped by a wonderful fireworks show at the end. Even the traffic coming out of the stadium onto I-75/I-85 was better than most days in which Turner Field sees a capacity crowd.
