 During yesterday's photo walk, I passed this commemorative plate, built around 1996 in time for the Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Years of walking and other abuse have deposited stains, bubble gum, and other debris on this plate. Today was the last day (and the Closing Ceremony) of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games, so I thought an Olympic theme was appropriate. The 2008 Summer Olympics were absolutely incredible, beginning with the spectacular Opening Ceremony to the last day of the Games, in which the U.S.A. basketball team ('Redeem Team') won the championship game against Spain, thereby securing gold. Overall, I think I spent too much time over the last seventeen days glued to the television watching these Olympics, but it was certainly awesome to see record-breaking performances by Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, and many other athletes in these Beijing Games. Congratulations to China for making these Olympic Games such a success. |
