![]() The next day, our cruise ship arrived to Savona, Italy. Today's most popular land excursion was a visit to Portofino, a quaint fishing village located in the province of Genoa. It took about an hour by coach to arrive to Santa Margherita, a small town on the coast. From there, we took a fifteen minute boat ride to reach Portofino. We only had about two hours of free time in Portofino, which meant I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to fully explore this town. The image featured today was captured as we were leaving on the ferry back to Santa Margherita, where our coach was waiting for us. I focused on the Italian flag in this image, which contains the Civil Ensign of Italy. Italy's flag is the tricolour of green, white, and red. This flag features a shield divided into four squares representing the four Maritime Republics of Italy: Venice (represented by the lion of St. Mark the evangelist, top right), Genoa (represented by the red cross on white background, top left), Amalfi (represented by the four-pronged white cross on blue background, bottom right), and Pisa (represented by a white cross on red background, bottom left). Note that the image is of the Italian Flag taken from the reverse; click here to see this flag in an .svg format. |
