![]() I woke up early in the morning, around 6AM, to capture a beautiful sunset today. As we approached the port of Marseilles, I was eager with anticipation about the excursion for the day: Avignon and Les Baux-de-Provence (future entry). Avignon is famous for Palais des Papes (Palace of the Popes), which is one of the largest medieval Gothic buildings in all of Europe; Avignon became the residence of the Popes in 1309, when Pope Clement V, unwilling to face the violent chaos of Rome after his election (1305), moved the Papal court to Avignon. After I exited the Palace, I captured this HDR image of its exterior. Moments later, I was off on foot to explore this charming city. |
