 Today I woke up at around 4:30AM and finished up packing to go on a Memorial Day road trip to Florida. I double checked to make sure that my cell phone, camera battery, and flash batteries were all charged and ready to go for the trip. Time of departure from home was 7:12AM. A total of four of us went on this trip in the same car. We stopped at Chick-Fil-A for breakfast and at Wendy's for lunch on our trip. In the car, we listened to some tracks from an iPod. The trip down I-75 was pretty smooth, but when we transitioned via I-10 toward Jacksonville, we noticed ominous clouds in the sky. For the rest of the way to our destination (Daytona Beach), it rained. We also somehow missed our exit by about fifteen miles, and thus ended up at our hotel in Daytona Beach at around 3PM. It was depressing that it was raining because the lifeguard patrol closed down the beach for swimming (we asked). Thunder and lightning were the culprits. We found out from the hotel clerk that today's rain was the first in about three months. Even though it meant we couldn't swim initially, it was a relief for the firefighters who have been dueling with the recent Florida wildfires. Having little else to do, and because we were all tired from the trip, we decided to take a nap. Who doesn't love naps? They're so refreshing. After the nap, the skies cleared a little bit and we decided to go to the beach. I walked around on the beach, took a phone call, and did some photography. I then dipped into the Atlantic Ocean and swam until my hands and feet were tired. Coming back to the hotel to retire for the evening, I came away with the photograph seen in today's entry. It's probably the only decent shot I got the entire day. Note: I am posting this entry on May 27, 2008 because I had limited connectivity to the internet while in Florida. Also, my photoblogging service cancelled my account while I was there (which made me very displeased with their service, since I was given no warning). I am back now though, so rejoice in the daily posts! |
