I promised to publish my favourite ten images which I posted on this photoblog in 2007, and today that day is here. In 2007, I posted every single day of the year (i.e., I had to choose from 365 images), so it was hard to select the best ten images. In the end, I went with eight colour images and two B&W images. This 4:1 ratio is somewhat biased toward B&W images, as I actually posted only around 12% of B&W images in 2007. However, going with only one B&W image would have been too conservative, so I decided to go with two. Also, for technical reasons, I decided to dedicate the top ten images to images which were taken in horizontal format; as such, some great images which were taken in portrait format were automatically eliminated from consideration.

What follows is the description of each of the ten images, which have been organized in chronological order in which I posted them in 2007, starting from top left to top right for the first five images, and then continuing with bottom left to bottom right for the rest of the images. Click on the title of the image to go directly to the page of the particular image to see a larger version.

So here are my top ten images, left to right for the top row, followed by left to right for the bottom row. The title of each image is linked.

1) 'Joshua Tree' - My favourite first image of the year came around in April, when I visited Joshua Tree National Park. I might have gone with 'Charred,' but as I mentioned above, I decided not to post any images which were taken in vertical format.

2) 'Harbor (Revisited)' - I decided to include this image in the top ten because of the unusual post-processing I performed in this image. Namely, I believe this was one of the first instances in which I played around with LAB colour mode in Photoshop to edit a B&W image. However, the primary reason I am including this image is because it reminds me of peace and tranquility.

3) 'Simplistic' - This picture of a daisy is included because it evokes feelings of beauty and peace. It's not the greatest image in the world, but I like it a lot.

4) 'PETCO Park' - This shot was taken on my one day excursion to San Diego to see the Atlanta Braves play the San Diego Padres. It was a fun trip. I decided to go with this image because I love going to baseball games and taking pictures of ballparks (another image which didn't make the top ten was this one of Dodger Stadium); to date, I have visited nine ballparks around the U.S. and Canada, and I am hoping to visit more ballparks in the future.

5) 'Sunset Stroll' - This shot was taken in Riga, Latvia in August 2007. It was a beautiful sunset that day, and the silhouettes in that image are what do it for me.

6) 'Tea #2' - I almost decided to go with the original 'Tea' image in place of this one, but this image is more interesting, I think. Like 'Sunset Stroll,' this image was also taken in Riga, Latvia.

7) 'Campfire' - This shot was taken during my visit to Zion National Park in October 2007. A reader described the image as 'surreal,' adding that it looks 'Almost like one of those miniature sets. Hot wheels car, fake trees, plastic people huddled around a tiny Christmas light.'

8) 'Natural Wonder' - This shot was also taken at Zion National Park. A lot of people have asked me whether the colours of those trees are natural, and I have to insist that the post-processing for that image was minimal; the trees are really that vibrant in real life!

9) 'Four to the Three' - A somewhat eerie looking image of wind turbines off I-10 in California. In case you missed the update which I posted with that image, see a surrealistic impression of this image by clicking here. You can see the amount of post-processing which went into this shot by checking out the original here.

10) 'Birds!' - This image was included in the top ten for the flurry of comments it received. The original image was posted in a 2x1 crop, so it was cropped to 1.5x1 to fit with the rest of the other images, which were posted in their original aspect ratios.

So that's my top ten from 2007. Let me know what you think, good or bad. Feel free to leave a comment if you think I've overlooked an image which you thought would/should be in this compilation.

You can always check out my other images by looking through the archives (link to the archives is at the bottom of every image), organized by colour and B&W. Finally, I should add that most of my images are available for purchase (via paypal, if you click on the 'purchase' link for those images which are available for purchase; email me if you desire to purchase an image by another method).

Thanks for reading this lengthy post, and let's see what 2008 will bring!
