I captured this image during my last day in California. I went out to a grocery store, and took the road less traveled by for a change.

Sometimes I go in super-heavy-duty post-processing mode, and this image is one product of late-night post-processing. For this image, I heavily boosted saturation to produce a high dynamic range (HDR) image. Though I think I might have overdone it in this image, I am willing to break the conventional rules of photography in this case because I love all the vivid colours. The sky's colour was manipulated in Photoshop, but I assure you that the golden hues of the trees were not. What is interesting is how the sidewalk leads away from the viewer toward the yellow-orange sunset in the distance.

Update 12/06/07: Don of Slackwater left this insightful comment: 'I like the post processing effects. Some feel pictures are only taken. I think pictures are taken and made.' I just wanted to say that I share his sentiment. For me, picture-taking doesn't stop with the release of the shutter button on my dSLR. The majority of the pictures I post are post-processed, sometimes with only minor adjustments but sometimes with major adjustments (such as the image you see before you). Check back in a day or two to see a post related to tools I use for post-processing.
